Western Wildness Slot

Western Wildness slot
Available at DaVinci's Gold Casino

One of the newer video slots in the Rival Gaming line-up is the Western Wildness machine. It is a five reel slot with a dozen different western cowboy themed symbols that adorn the reels.

The symbols to look for include the . . .

Shotgun Scatter symbol. I think it's neat that a "scatter gun" is the scatter symbol on this slot. The fun part about scatter symbols is that you do not need to land them on a payline in order for them to create a winning combination. The thing that makes this scatter symbol better than many is that landing three or more of them unlocks a FREE SPIN session.

The more scatters you land, the longer the free spin session. Three scatters will give you 10 free spins. Four will give you a 20 spin session. If you're lucky enough to land five scatter symbols you'll have a whopping 100 Free Spin Session. AND, the values of the winning combinations you land during a free spin session are all multiplied by THREE.

So - this scatter symbol is certainly a good find.

Expanding Wild symbol. The Wagon Wheel symbol is a Wild symbol. Of course all Wild symbols can substitute for most other symbols on the reels to help in completing paylines. But, there are two things that make the Wild symbol on the Western Wildness slot machine special.

It is an expanding WILD symbol. So, when the symbol does help to complete a payline, it expands to fill the entire reel, helping to complete even more paylines!

It also acts as a multiplier. Any winning combination that is created by using the Wagon Wheel Wild Symbol is doubled in value.

Bonus Round - the bonus round is unlocked by landing three or more Steer Skull icons. The bonus game itself is a shootout at the Okee Doke Corral, where it's you against a couple of bottles lined up on the fence.

The game might be a bit of a "Skill Slot". None of the bottles move, but it looks as though you can hit the mouse button and "pull the trigger" before you line it up squarely on a bottle, and perhaps miss a target. It took me so long to finally unlock the bonus round that I wasn't going to miss on purpose to find out. And, the credits that I managed to gain while shooting the bottles off of the fence were sizeable, so one shot could have meant a lot.

There are a couple of neat features to the bonus game. If you hit a bottle it could have one of several things behind it.

  • A set amount of credits.
  • A Money Bag, which resets the bottles. After all, if you shoot them all the game is over.
  • A valuable Box of Shells. This resets the number of shots you have in your gun. After all, if you run out of bullets, you're done shooting.
So, the game can last a while if you keep uncovering more shells and setting up more bottles. This, to me, is much more fun than a "pick three" and then get back to the reels type of bonus game.

Western Wildness slot paytable

Overall: The Western Wildness slot machine has some fun features. By putting a free spins session together with a bonus game that is as entertaining as the shootout at the Okey Doke Corral, rival Gaming has put together a winning video slot machine.
